Horror Movie Ingredient 1, the Protagonist

Today, my good citizens of Interestedville, I bring you the first intallment of my list of Horror Movie Ingredients.

Ingredient Number 1, the Protagonist:

The ideal central character for anything horrifying is a female. Women are weaker, and women are more beautiful. What women lack in psycial strength they easily make up in perseverance and wit. Having spent a long life (between 16 and 23 years) surviving in a male dominated work environment and school system, women have built an inner strength allowing them to survive multiple stabbing wounds or upwards of thirty beatings to the head.
Because women possess such sheer tenacity, female protagonists much have a flaw. In fact, all protagonists have a tragic flaw, but women contain very simple, uncreative flaws. A typical flaw for a female protagonist should involve her emotions. A list of possible flaws would include:
- The female has been raped recently, causing her to panic when faced with a threatening situation
- The female recently gave birth (usually to a human), causing her to panic when her child is faced with a threatening situation
- The female recently broke up with her boyfriend, whom she discovered was cheating on her, causing her to panic when faced with a threatening situation involing a male and to trust even the most random female with the most intimate details of her life
- The female was abused as a child, causing her to panic when faced with a threatening situation
Many other flaws are plausible, allthough less common. When creating character flaws for females, you should always include "causing her to panic when faced with a threatening situation" because that is the typical female reaction. Women are witty, but when faced with a threatening situation, women become as intelligent as small animals. While a woman is smart enough to figure out that something is going wrong, and even determine the cause of the problems, she is helpless to do anything other than run upstairs. While upstairs, your typical female will wait for help and/or die.
When having a female star in a horror film, the most important part of casting is finding the right woman. A pretty face is not as important as a pretty body. Points to remember when casting include:
- What clothing will be ripped off during the course of the movie that will not be replaced? Work with that.
- A pretty face may appeal to some, but anyone choosing to be entertained by mass slaughter always likes a good set of tits.
- A pretty face never looks as good with blood smeared on it. A pretty face never looks good when screaming for help. A pretty face never looks good with tears running down it.
- A good body can be seen outlined through a shower curtain, whereas a face can not.
It should be noted that no harm will come from having a female with a pretty face as a protagonist, but the protagonist must have a pretty body.

Females are not the only plausible protagonists. Sometimes a male protagonist would work perfectly.
